A Word From the President
First of all I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our new members and their families to our club and I hope to meet you all in the near future. The Golden Grove Football Club is a family club that offers a friendly environment where you can enjoy our junior football program, watch good senior football or just relax and have a social time amongst friends.
As we approach the new season I am pleased to be able to report that the new facility is complete and we will be celebrating the official opening on Saturday 17th April. As a club we were very excited about the start of the season and we all wish our new coach Mark Weaver and his assistant Andrew Pascoe, every success for the 2010 season. With numbers far exceeding our expectations we are also looking forward to another great year for our other senior sides. Our junior development program continues to supply new young players and along with the influx of new players to the club our B, C and D grade coaches can look forward to coaching strong competitive sides throughout the season. Unfortunately our Under 18 numbers are still a little low and I ask that all members go out and try and source some young 17 year olds who want to join a football club that is moving forward. If anyone needs to know more about the Under 18’s please contact coach, Steve Harris on 0422 655 090 or Kate Grandey on 0439 434 034.
Our Junior Program will continue again this season with the committee already experiencing good numbers. Team lists have been allocated and most teams are already on the track in readiness for Round 1 in April. This year will see the club supporting the SANFL by supplying a record number of players to their respective development squads. We are also very proud to be able to watch a number of former juniors playing both league and reserves football in the SANFL as well as following the progress in the AFL of former juniors Shane Edwards at Richmond and Daniel Menzel at Geelong.
Off the field the committee will continue to develop the Harpers Field site and we will be working tirelessly in making sure the new oval is completed and ready to use in 2012. I am currently looking into more grants to assist us with floodlighting, fencing and scoreboards. Like all businesses we continue to try and make ends meet and the committee, through Frank McCormack our Fundraising Chairman has tabled a calendar of events which we urge members to support. The new clubhouse allows us to open more frequently and offer meals after games, as well as a fully serviced canteen during games. We are currently waiting for plans to be approved for a storage shed to be erected near the existing oval and this along with a new BBQ facility should be ready very soon.
Once again a number of local businesses continue to assist us with their sponsorship. It was great to meet so many of our supporters at our recent sponsorship evening. Their support to our club is invaluable to us moving forward and I thank them all.
To make our club function we rely on our members and I ask that you give your full support to the new committee and volunteer to assist wherever you can and I am sure we will reach all our goals in 2010.
Go the Mighty Burra’s
