WELCOME TO ALL JUNIOR PLAYERS | |
|---|
| |
| I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everybody to season 2010 at the club, in what promises to be an exciting year both on and off the field. The new changeroom and "meeting room" facility is getting it's final touch ups with new furniture arriving at the end of March. The official opening looks to be around mid April but more details will follow.
This season the number of junior teams continue to grow with the addition of a third U/8 team and a second U/15 team and we are on target to exceed 450 junior players in 2010. There are still vacancies for U/6, U/10, U/12, U/13, U/15 and U/16. Our focus this year is still on developing our youngsters with skills, fitness and core strength being targeted as areas to improve. After Easter I will be available from 4.30pm every Thursday at Harpers for any 1 on 1 training and I invite all players from all age groups just give me a call if interested. I will also be looking to include some of our senior players to assist. We have experienced a number of kids electing not to return to the club this year for various reasons but this has been more than offset by the number of new players into the Golden Grove system. For all the people who have been networking the "recruiting" train on behalf of the club for your input.
In addition to an extra two teams nominated for the NEMJFA competition, we have also placing an U/13 and U/16 girls team with the CDJFA which will play Friday nights. The girls will play a modified team competition consisting of 12 players only on the field. The CDJFA has been running this for a few years now with great success. However our numbers are still a little lower than we had hoped after some pre-season surveying. I would encourage all families with half interested female siblings who fall into the age category to contact Chris Buttery (0402 333 104) or Alby Madaras (0439 881 597). This will fall into line with the proposed expansion at SANFL and AFL level for State and National Women's competitions in the future. As a club, promoting these competitions can open up opportunities for further grants, sponsorship and revenue to help us continue to grow. I do urge everybody to support this initiative.
Most teams have had had a hit out already this year but the organising of trial games has been difficult due to the late finish of cricket and the dates that Easter falls on. I haven't planned any trial games after Easter but the U/7, U/8 and U/9 teams will be playing in the annual carnivals at Modbury and Tea Tree Gully. Full Friday night games will return this year to Harpers at 6.10pm and 7.30pm. Teams competing on Friday night both home and away are encouraged to return to the club for presentations where the facilities will be open, as well as those teams playing on the Sunday will all come back to the club.
Finally, again thank for the opportunity and the privilege to have the kids involved at Golden Grove, we face some challenges with the development of the second oval and our financial commitment to our home. So I urge everybody to support the club in our fundraising efforts this year for the various events programmed for the year.
Yours in Footy

| Sunday presentations to be advised.
The Club makes available 8 awards for each team, which are presented to players as an engouragement award. The Coach and/or Team Manager
determine the recipients of the awards.
The presentations run for approximately 45 minutues. We ask that during this time, everyone remain seated, and that noise
be kept to a minimum so everyone can hear and enjoy the coaches presentations.
This is a great opportunity for families to support and encourage your child(ren) in their football development, and a great chance for
players and families to socialise with others.
